Update from El Presidente

Here we are in Mid-Riding Season and the Holidays are already upon us. Let me begin with a hearty Merry Christmas and to all of us a healthy prosperous New Year.

Our 6 rides this season have been so well attended that it’s great knowing that everyone has enjoyed our schedule thus far, and we’ve had a great deal of new members join our club with many thanks to Clara Capps for her recruiting efforts.

During the last campout the board met and discussed our elections, during our last campout of 2012-2013 Season (April 2013) ; we will have an election. If you wish to run for a board position the deadline for nominations will February at the Pig Roast. The ballots will be mailed out in March for the election in April. Please be sure to make your selection and mail in your ballots promptly.

As a club we are committed to the preservation and improvement of Equestrian Trails, we welcome your ideas and assistance as Club Members.

March 15-17 – Club sponsored ride at Shangrila. Make your reservations at Reserve America 800 328 3521 or online at www.reserveamerica.com More details to follow.

April 19-21 Rock Springs. Club will provide RIBS please bring a side dish. Make your own reservations at 407-884-2009. Hosted by your Board members. Due to the low interest in the board election, your board members will be announced at this campout.

May 17-19 Rima Ridge. This will be a Pot luck dinner on Saturday night please pay the Iron Ranger when you arrive. No reservations needed. Hosted by Clara and Beth. Please contact them for more information.

All riders must present a negative Coggins form at all rides. Due to insurance requirements nonmembers ust purchase a temporary membership to participate in rides. Always call and confirm an activity with a board member or ride contact.

Equestrian Camp Permits

As a reminder, large groups should send notification at least 30 days in advance to allow time to determine whether to issue a special use permit. The Campsite Application form may be printed from the District web site at www.swfwmd.state.fl.us under the heading Recreational Guide.

For individuals and small groups, please allow 10 days to process camping permits. For more information, or to receive a campsite application by fax or mail please contact Dave Morgan at 800-423-1476 x4482 or Dave.Morgan@swfwmd.state.fl.us.

NEWS AND VIEWS

  • "Nicole's Law" effective Oct. 1, 2009, requires use of protective headgear by horse riders 16 years-old and younger, who are riding on or in public roads, right-of-ways, equestrian trails, recreation trails, parks, nature preserves, schools, or "any other publicly owned or controlled property."  according to the Office of the Florida Governor.
